James C. Lam is a risk management consultant, board director, and former chief risk officer. He is President of James Lam & Associates, a risk management consulting firm that serves clients across all industry sectors. James also serves as an independent director and risk committee chair of Blackrock iShares Funds and an independent director of the FAIR Institute.
Previously, James served as a board director and chair of the risk oversight committee of E*TRADE Financial and E*TRADE Bank. He also served as chief risk officer of Fidelity Investments, president of ERisk, and partner of Oliver Wyman.
James is the author of Enterprise Risk Management (Wiley, 2003; second edition, 2014) and Implementing Enterprise Risk Management (Wiley, 2017). He has been recognized in the Directorship 100 by the National Association of Corporate Directors, Lifetime Achievement Award by Shared Assessments, Risk Manager of the Year by the Global Association of Risk Professionals, and “100 Most Influential People in Finance” by Treasury & Risk Management magazine.
